Description

Catherine of Alexandria: The embodiment of courage and intellect

Catherine of Alexandria, a legend of early Christianity, remains a symbol of intellectual brilliance and indomitable courage. This work of art embodies her extraordinary life story and creates perfect art for reading nooks and offices, where it adds inspiration and depth.

The daughter of a wealthy Alexandrian family was considered to be exceptionally educated - a woman who excelled in philosophy, rhetoric and theology. When Emperor Maxentius learned of their Christian faith, he challenged them to defend their beliefs. Catherine appeared before his brightest scholars and convinced them with her logic and wisdom, so much so that some of them converted to the Christian faith themselves. However, this act sealed her fate: Maxentius had her imprisoned and later tortured with a wheel. But the wheel broke - a miracle, that revealed her strength and divine calling.

Maxentius then ordered her beheading. Her body is then said to have been carried by angels to Mount Sinai, where the famous St. Catherine's Monastery now stands. Since then, Catherine has been revered as the patroness of scholars, philosophers and girls, a symbol of unshakable convictions and the power of the spirit.

This work of art honors her life and work in an exceptionally poetic form. The broken wheel - a symbol of her overcoming suffering - and the delicate silhouette merge into a composition that harmoniously combines strength and tenderness. As art for reading corners and offices, it not only brings aesthetic pleasure, but also moments of clarity and serenity.

Her Memorial Day on November 25th is a reminder that true power lies in calm and wisdom - a legacy that remains timelessly alive in this work of art. An indispensable element for anyone looking for art for reading corners and offices that is more than decoration: a daily companion for inspiration and reflection.

As a type of work of art, it could be described as a “handmade edition”. Each piece of art is carefully and individually handcrafted, creating a unique and artistic quality. The handcrafted edition combines craftsmanship, artistic creativity and special attention to detail.

Limited number

In the handcrafted edition, each artwork is produced in a limited number to ensure its exclusivity and collectible value. This limited edition ensures that the number of copies available is limited, giving each individual work a special rarity.

Through the combination of craftsmanship and limited edition, each work of art becomes a unique expression of the creator's artistic vision. The variations and nuances created by the handmade process, make each work within the handmade edition an individual and unique work of art.

The handcrafted edition offers collectors and art lovers the opportunity to own a high quality and unique work of art that creates a unique connection to artistic creation and the artisanal process. Each work within the limited edition is a special expansion of the artistic vision and a sought-after piece for every art lover.

Material

Production, design and materials

I create the pictures by hand using mixed media on finest handmade paper. Handmade paper is slightly cream-colored and has irregular edges, which give the picture an additional personal and particularly elegant touch. For this reason, the size of the images may vary. The basic size is A4, i.e. 21 cm x 29,7 cm = approx. 8.3 in x 11,7 in

The motif in red is made from real, hand-made document ink. The digital elements (characters) are applied with conventional printer ink.

Every image is unique. My specially developed techniques allow the creation of similar, but never identical, works. You are holding a truly unique piece in your hand. I sign the sheets by hand on the back (pencil, initialed: WR for Wonnereich, year). A certificate card with information about the materials is included.
