Description

St. Elisabeth of Thuringia – dancer between grace and devotion

This hand-painted, elegant wall art from the Wonnereich studio combines traditional heritage with modern expressiveness. St. Elisabeth of Thuringia, known for her tireless charity, is depicted here in a cheerful and lively movement that embodies lightness and joy.

In her hands she holds a loaf of bread, a symbol of her devotion to the poor, and floating roses that dance above her like balloons on delicate ribbons - a modern echo of the famous rose miracle.

The picture, painted in radiant gold on high-quality handmade paper, combines the preciousness of the materials used with a contemporary artistic style. It radiates warmth, grace and hope and is a reminder that the beauty of giving never fades.

A work that gives every room a heavenly light - and a story that touches hearts.

Who was the “Saint of Love,”  Elisabeth of Thuringia?

It is November 19th, the memorial day of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia - the woman whose life appears like a shining chapter of Christian charity. Born a king's daughter, she chose the suffering of the poor and sick rather than enjoying the privileges of the nobility.

Elizabeth's existence was permeated by a unique tenderness that left no barrier between her heart and the suffering of the world. She saw Christ himself in every beggar and washed their wounds with a devotion that astonishes us today. The legend of the rose miracle - how bread turned into fragrant flowers - almost seems like a metaphor for the power of her love.

After the early death of her husband, Landgrave Ludwig IV, everything was taken away from her, but not her unshakable faith. In recent years she lived in simplicity and founded a hospital to continue serving. She died in 1231, only 24 years old, but her legacy endures through the centuries.

Elegant wall art reminiscent of an enchanting legend

The Rose Miracle – A story full of wonder and grace

The legend of the rose miracle is inextricably linked to St. Elizabeth of Thuringia. It is said that Elisabeth secretly stole bread for the poor from the castle kitchen to distribute to those in need - an act of charity that was met with resistance in her time.

One day, when she was stopped on the way to town by her suspicious husband and he wanted to know what she was hiding under her coat, she opened it. Instead of the bread, however, he saw a magnificent bunch of fresh roses that shone in bright colors - in the middle of winter.

The Rose Miracle is a symbol of grace, the miracle of giving, and the power of love to overcome obstacles. It shows how even small, courageous acts of generosity can be transformed into something greater - a message that remains timeless and sparks new inspiration in any room.

I have published a detailed version of the beautiful story of the rose miracle on my blog.

Material

Blattgold und Werkzeug
Real handmade paper with tools

I create the pictures by hand using mixed media on finest handmade paper. Handmade paper is slightly cream-colored and has irregular edges, which give the picture an additional elegant touch. For this reason, the size of the images may vary by a few centimeters. The overlay consists of genuine 23 carat double ducat gold leaf from the Austrian Mint. Our era is reflected in the digital elements, which is why the characters are printed with conventional printer ink in a very complicated process. Every picture is unique. My specially developed techniques allow the creation of similar, but never identical, works. You are holding a truly unique piece in your hand. I sign the sheets by hand on the back (pencil, initialed: WR for Wonnereich, year). A certificate card with information about the materials is included.
