Extravagant Gifts - Modern Images of Saints

If you're looking for unusual gifts, you almost can't go wrong with this wall art. It suits any furnishing style, sets a powerful accent in a bright Scandi-style living room, enlivens a little-noticed corner in the entrance hall, breaks the office or home office out of its sobriety or contrasts classic furnishings with velvet covers or leather furniture. Although it is a real eye-catcher, it doesn't impose itself. It is sufficient on its own if it hangs somewhere alone and it stands alongside other pictures, books or antique objects without outdoing them.

Abstract Images of Saints Unusual Gift Idea on Trend

This image is customizable. Since the motif in red is ambiguous, it fits several martyrs. It's originally dedicated to Saint Barbara, but feel free to be creative and look for a specific saint that it also fits.

The Image Motif of this Gift

It shows two bold red lines that can represent columns, towers or shafts. A ravine, a path or gullies can also be seen in it. Barbara is also the patron saint of mines and tunnels. The motif takes up this theme, but can also represent the towers that are part of the martyrdom of the legendary saints.

This unusual gift idea goes, for example, with:

Saint Barbara

Barbara is a martyr and is one of the 14 Holy Helpers. She is one of the most popular saints among Christians, especially in mining regions. Her legends detail her beauty and sharp mind. Her father is said to have kept her prisoner in a tower and later sentenced her to death when he found out, that she had become a Christian.

She was a very beautiful and clever young woman and lived in the 3rd century. Many young men from Nikomedia, her place of origin, courted her, but she rejected them all. Her father Dioscuros tried to shield her from the outside world while he was away and locked her in a specially built tower. She secretly adopted the Christian faith and decided to live as a hermit in a bathhouse her father had built. There she had a third window added - as a symbol of the Trinity . When her father found out about her conversion to Christianity, he tried to kill her. Barbara fled and found shelter in a rock that opened before her. But a shepherd betrayed her, she was caught, tortured and sentenced to death. Dioscurus himself beheaded his daughter and was then killed by lightning. That's why Barbara is also the patron saint in dangers, in mining, in the military and against lightning strikes and sudden death.

Beautiful customs have developed from the veneration of the very popular saints. During parades in her honor, miners often wear their miner's uniform, a smock decorated with 29 buttons meant to symbolize Barbara's 29 years of life. The top three buttons are often open. They either mean faith, hope and love, but also symbolize the Trinity or are intended to commemorate Barbara's three-year imprisonment. The nine points of the cape collar are a reminder about nine years of imprisonment in the tower.

Customs also include “Barbara branches,” which are cut and watered on her day of remembrance. If they bloom by Christmas, this promises the owner happiness in love. Generally, the blossomed branches mean a fruitful coming year.

John Knox

Was a priest and reformer from Scotland. His attribute is the color red, so this motif suits him well, even though he is not one of the martyrs. The Protestant Church remembers him on November 24th.

Material

Production, design and materials

I create the pictures by hand using mixed media on finest handmade paper. Handmade paper is slightly cream-colored and has irregular edges, which give the picture an additional personal and particularly elegant touch. For this reason, the size of the images may vary. The basic size is A4, i.e. 21 cm x 29,7 cm = approx. 8.3 in x 11,7 in

The motif in red is made from real, hand-made document ink. The digital elements (characters) are applied with conventional printer ink.

Every image is unique. My specially developed techniques allow the creation of similar, but never identical, works. You are holding a truly unique piece in your hand. I sign the sheets by hand on the back (pencil, initialed: WR for Wonnereich, year). A certificate card with information about the materials is included.
